Lead Tutor: Byron Campbell (RSLI)

This programme of three training days will focus on the processes and skills required for interpreting between two languages.

The training would suit any working communication support worker wanting to improve/develop their ability to interpret more effectively and efficiently between two languages.

Day One: Will look at the many processes involved in working between two languages and why the task can be complex and demanding, also exploring some of the theories and models around interpreting and the range of strategies for coping with difficulties that may arise when interpreting. This will supply the building blocks for days two and three.

Fee: £50 including VAT.

Dates: Monday 30th March 2015

Day Two: Is aimed at enhancing CSWs’ voice over skills and will look at a variety of skills required to function effectively such as intonation, pacing and characterisation.

Fee: £45 including VAT.

Dates: Tuesday 31st March 2015

Day Three: Will focus specifically on the skill of interpreting from spoken English into BSL, and will include a review of basic BSL linguistic structures.

Fee: £45 including VAT.

Dates: Wednesday 1st April 2015

Both Day Two and Day Three will also cover some of the common problems that interpreters encounter and how to overcome them. A range of training materials will be used in order to highlight specific areas for development and to assist learners in improving their skills in this aspect of interpreting.

All participants attending Day Two and/or Day Three will receive a DVD with clips and exercises to practice at home.
