The BA (Hons) Social Work is the professional qualification required to apply for registration as a Social Worker in the UK. About this course
This qualification leads to employment as a Qualified Social Worker following successful registration onto the Health and Care Professions Council register. As it is a generic qualification, you would be able to apply for posts within both the Children and Families or Adult Community Care sectors in a range of statutory, voluntary and private agencies.
Students receiving an award other than the BA (Hons) Social Work (i.e. those exiting the programme early and receiving the Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education, Social Studies) will not be eligible to apply for registration onto the Health and Care Professions Council.

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above or equivalent Level 2 qualifications;

Course Assessment Method
The admissions process will include a written test, group exercise and individual interview through which an assessment will be made of your potential for the course including your proficiency in English, your knowledge and understanding of the social work role and your personal values. The written test will be completed on computers to test your IT skills. People who use services and social work practitioners will be involved in the selection process alongside academic staff from the course team.
Once enrolled assessment methods are varied and will include essays, reports, presentations and exams (in Law only). Assessments are designed to reflect specific elements of Social Work practice and will involve social work practitioners and service users, as well as academic staff. Modules in the first year have formative assessments to guide you in your development, as well as formally graded summative assessments.
All subjects are compulsory. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) will be considered if you have evidence of previous study that meets the required learning outcomes. A maximum of 50% of the course credit can be gained through APL and this can include credit for successfully completed social work practice placements. In accordance with College policy, we will not consider unaccredited experiential learning. For further information on APL please contact the course team.
