2. Course description You will learn how to measure up and accurately calculate the quantity of fabric needed for your project, allowing for pattern repeats. We will cover how to make curtains and blinds, which includes how to interline and line them using a variety of different linings and curtain heading types. Many other textile projects for the home will be covered, including a variety of cushions, with piping and zips, throws and lampshades. You will have the opportunity to improve your own sewing machine skills, such as appliqué and free-motion embroidery, as well as learn some new hand-sewing techniques. We will also discuss styles, colours and design aspects in relation to your projects.

3. Entry requirements Suitable for all abilities. Basic sewing skills would be useful, though not essential.We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you to discuss your support needs. Equipment required Items to bring to the first session of the course:-- An A4 ring binder folder, A4 tear off notepad to fit into ring binder.- Pen, pencil, calculator.- A basic sewing kit; scissors, pins, steel tape measure.- Basic window measurements and photos of your window, ideas from magazines and pictures of anything you would like to make. - Fabric and matching thread if you have it.Sewing items and fabrics will be required on all further weeks; these will be discussed in detail at the first class.Sewing machines are provided at the centre and useful information handouts will be available to add to your folders throughout the course. 5.
