About this course

By the end of this course you will have a greater understanding of:
Certain economic, education and welfare policies of governments
The making of the ‘permissive society’, the ‘New Morality’ and religious radicalism
The growth of the consumer society; popular music, fashion and the development of a ‘drug culture’
Squatting, CND, support for independence movements and opposition to the Vietnam war
The nature of Scottish and Welsh post war nationalist campaigns and the Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland.

Pen and paper for any optional note taking.

The course is a mix of tutor presentation and discussion.

Certain economic, education and welfare policies of governments including nationalization and the making of the Welfare State together with the beginnings of comprehensive education and the Open University
The making of the ‘permissive society’, notably legalization of abortion and homosexuality and the abolition of theatre censorship; the ‘New Morality’ and religious radicalism
The growth of the consumer society; popular music, fashion/Carnaby Street and the development of a ‘drug culture’
Squatting, CND, support for independence movements and opposition to the Vietnam war
The nature of Scottish and Welsh post war nationalist campaigns and the Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland.
