A language-based qualification testing all four language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). It offers a natural transition from GCSE as many of the topics to be studied, for example education and health, will already be familiar to you.

Further develops all four language skills through the study of more advanced topics, most of which, like terrorism, will be new to you. You will also have the opportunity to study aspects of Spanish-language culture and society, including Spanish literature and cinema.

What will I learn?
You will be taught by well-qualified staff in modern, well-equipped classrooms. There will be individual, pair and group work activities, work with audio and video materials and language games.
You will make use of the Department's multimedia resources and, in order to help you develop your speaking skills, you will have a weekly conversation class with the College's Spanish language assistant.
We run an annual, very successful, student exchange with a college in Madrid- an excellent and very enjoyable way to consolidate what you have learnt in class and make the language come alive!
The Department also organises visits to Sixth Form Days offered by local universities and trips to study screenings of Spanish films.
What Makes a good Spanish student?
You will want to get involved and participate in lessons as the subject is an interactive one. You should also have an interest in Spanish society, culture and language.
Which other courses link well with this subject?

Future Opportunities

Some of our students choose to take a gap year, making good use of this time to develop their language and life skills by working in a Spanish speaking country - Ecuador and Chile as well as Madrid and Barcelona being firm favourites!
You should be aware that the vast majority of employers will accept students with a Spanish degree onto their graduate training schemes, whether or not the work itself directly involves foreign language skills. A high proportion of our students choose to study Spanish in order to work in a variety of careers including management, advertising, finance, journalism,
