This is a national recognised work based qualification.
What modules are covered?This is a taught course which combines underpinning knowledge with work based assessment. The guided learning will address:
The role of the teaching assistant
Assessment for learning
Promoting positive behaviour
Child development
Safeguarding
Health and safety in schools
Equality and inclusive practices
And a selection of optional units including:
Support literacy development
Support numeracy development
Team working
Maintain learner records
What qualifications will I get?Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
How will I be assessed?Written tasks attached to units and work based assessment.
What is the entry process?Please note you need to be working for approx 20 hrs a week in a school. Proof of your work role will be required.
What are the entry requirements?Minimum qualifications: Level 1
You must have at least one GCSE or equivalent at grade ‘C’ or above. You must be employed in a school on a full time basis and have experience of working as a teaching assistant with children in EYFS and above.
You must be 18 years old.
What else do I need to know?Length of course: up to two years - 2 hours per week in college plus assessment in the workplace.
The fee quoted is for students aged 19 years to 23 years. For students who are 24 years of age and over the cost is £2,200. Please refer to 24+ loan information on our website.
What can I do after this course?Progress to a Foundation degree.

The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan
If you are 24 or over at start of this course, you can apply for a new loan to cover the course fees. There are no repayments until the course is completed and you are earning £21000 or more. Therefore if you earn up to £21000 a year there’s nothing to pay back. If you earn £22000 a year your loan repayments would be as little as £7 per month. Call us for more information.
