What you'll study
Our Sport and Exercise Nutrition MSc is designed to provide you with detailed knowledge of the metabolism of nutrients and of nutritional requirements in humans, and to promote understanding of current theories of the relationships between diet and performance in sport, and between diet, exercise and health.

Sport and Exercise Nutrition
Sport and Exercise Nutrition
This module covers nutrition fundamentals for the sport and exercise nutritionist, including energy, carbohydrate, protein, fat and water, as well as an introduction to supplement use in athletes.
Physiology of Endurance Performance
Physiology of Endurance Performance
This module covers the physiology of body systems underpinning the capacity for exercise, the physiological basis of interventions to enhance endurance performance, and the basis of fatigue and determinants of performance in such events.
Exercise and Immunology
Exercise and Immunology
This module evaluates the evidence concerning the influence of exercise on immune function and infection risk, as well as how nutrition interacts with this relationship.
Applied Nutrition
Applied Nutrition
This module examines how the principals of nutrition are applied to exercising populations, as well as other applied settings. Through a blend of lectures, seminars and practical laboratories you will systematically evaluate dietary requirements of various exercising populations and be provided with opportunity to apply these principals in relevant tasks.
Advanced Sport and Exercise Nutrition
Advanced Sport and Exercise Nutrition
This module allows you to examine current, key concepts in sport and exercise nutrition and systematically evaluates our current understanding of supplements and nutrition strategies to optimise performance and/ or adaptation to exercise training.
Laboratory Techniques in Sport and Exercise Nutrition
Laboratory Techniques in Sport and Exercise Nutrition
Through this module you will develop competency in a wide range of research techniques used to study sport and exercise nutrition, which will assist in your preparation to undertake your research project.
Quantitative Research: Toggle
Quantitative Research: Toggle
In this module you will gain a critical understanding of statistical theory and common statistical procedures, as well as the application of these in sport and exercise nutrition.
Research Project
Research Project
In this module you will use the knowledge and skills gained in other modules to undertake a substantial piece of original research with relevance to sport and exercise nutrition. You will be supervised by of one of our nutrition or physiology staff, with the breadth of supervisory expertise meaning the variety of projects available is second to none. Most students usually work on staff research projects, but there is scope to develop your own project idea to investigate a specific research question of interest to you.
