Sport and Recreation - Level 3 Progression Award
The City and Guilds Level 3 Progression Award in Sport and Recreation is a 1 years programme which aims to introduce candidates to the range of opportunities available within the Sport and Recreation sector and to the breadth of work that is carried out.
The qualification offers opportunities for candidates to explore issues and concepts that are contextualised and relate to career paths whilst still providing opportunities to develop skills that would be of benefit whichever career path candidates choose. The skills developed through achieving these qualifications will enhance candidates knowledge and understanding of the sector and provide opportunities to develop appropriate skills.
What will I study?
The course contains compulsory and optional units incorporating the following subjects:
Compulsory units
· Working in the Sport and Recreation industry · Organising resources in the Sport and Recreation industry · Meeting legal responsibilities in the Sport and Recreation industry
Optional Units
Varieties are available but could typically include:
· Sports coaching · Improve the sporting performance of self and others · Working with disabled people · Organising a residential experience · Adventure leadership · Expedition leadership · Nutrition and Exercise · Developing sports · Sports Massage
Key Skills
Through your studies you will be given the opportunity to improve and receive certification of your key skills in Communication. Note that key skills, which are compulsory, are nationally recognised qualifications that will not only improve your employability skills but they may also assist your university application by attracting, additional UCAS points.
What entry qualifications will I need?
The course structure allows continuous progression with successful completion of each level and an interview before acceptance onto the next level. Previously obtained or additional qualifications and experience will be taken into consideration during applications.
Level 3: 3 GCSE grade C or completion of a Level 2 programme
How long is the programme?
1 year
How will I be assessed?
Successful completion of 3 mandatory plus 4 optional units. There are 3 mandatory units and all three have an externally set, marked and verified short answer written paper. For each mandatory unit, and optional units, there is an externally set, internally marked, and externally verified practical assignment
What will it cost?
All costs will be discussed at interview. Students under 19 do not pay tuition or exam fees.
