The next decade has the potential to be ‘a golden decade' for sport in the UK. A series of major sporting events, including the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, have already been confirmed, while bids for other events, such as the 2018 FIFA World Cup, are also ongoing.

This programme covers several key areas, such as governance and regulatory issues, with special emphasis on applications to the business of football. You will also have the chance to prepare a supervised dissertation on a specific aspect of the sport or football business.

It will help you develop a deeper understanding of management, governance and regulatory issues within the business of football.

Study Resources

Course teaching is underpinned by the work of the Birkbeck Sports Business Centre. The Centre is currently involved in a number of research projects analysing various aspects of the governance and regulation of football.

We engage in significant collaborative research and have excellent contacts with many public and private sector organisations, professional bodies and researchers at other academic institutions.
