Five GCSEs at grade C or above, or Merit profile at BTEC First Diploma or equivalent Level 2 qualification. A grade D or above in English is also required.

The Programme
The course is ideal preparation if students are interested in careers that involve coaching, strength and conditioning, teaching and sports science support. Students will be involved in an educational model that incorporates a business approach to the development of sporting excellence within North Devon. Students will develop the appropriate knowledge and understanding so they can deliver on a variety of programmes.
The Programme Content
The programmes that make up the Performance & Excellence model include The Health of Young North Devon Initiative, Sports Performance Academies and the North Devon Sport Support Programme. The programme comprises of 18 coursework assessed units that include:
The Body in Action, Training & Fitness for Sport, Sports Coaching, Working with Children, Fitness Testing, Sports Nutrition, Instructing Physical Activity & Exercise, Talent Identification, Organising Sports Events, Technical & Tactical Skills in Sport, The Athlete's Lifestyle, Health and Safety in Sport, Sport as a Business, Analysis of Sports Performance, Officiating, Psychology for Sports Performance, Work based Experience and Sport & Exercise Massage.
Progression / Careers
Students can progress onto careers including Coaching, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science Support, Leisure Management, Sports Therapy, Teaching, Sports Development and the Fitness Industry. Some of these career routes will require further study at university. We have a number of sport related Foundation Degrees here at North Devon College.
