Course programme

The course includes core sciences, anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, sports psychology and sports nutrition. You may complete options in coaching, fitness appraisal, biomechanics, practical team sports, sports massage and current issues in sport. The course is taught by specialist sports science staff.


You will need four GCSEs at grade C or above (including any two of Science, Maths and English Language). Alternatively you can have a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (at Merit or above), with English and Maths as part of a Functional Skills module.

Applicants will also need a good reference from a school or employer. You will complete an interview and assessment prior to enrolment.

Assessment is continuous and focuses on practical tasks and an extended project. There will be occasional written tests to demonstrate your understanding.

The course is worth three A Levels, so can serve as your entry to a full degree. It also opens doors to a career in a number of areas in Sports and Exercise, including Sports Science, Coaching, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Sports Nutrition.
