OCR Level 3 National Diploma in Sport
This qualification has been designed as a fast-track, intensive one year course, offering you the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in sports for entry into employment and / or onto further study.
What will I be doing?
You will select twelve units (four mandatory, eight optional) from those listed below to study throughout the one year course (four units per term):
Mandatory units
- unit 1: the sports industry
- unit 2: sport and society
- unit 3: principles of sport coaching
- unit 4: sport in the UK
Optional Units (* indicates non-specialist)
- unit 5: learning and developing sport skills
- unit 6: health and safety in sport
- unit 7: anatomy and physiology for sport and exercise
- unit 8: managing and operating outdoor education
- unit 9: technology in sport
- unit 10: exercise prescription
- unit 11: career planning for the sports industry*
- unit 12: work experience in the sports industry*
Sports Performance Specialist Pathway
- unit 13: training and fitness
- unit 14: sport and exercise psychology
- unit 15: injury in sport
- unit 16: analyse and improve performance
- unit 17: nutrition for sport and exercise
- unit 18: optimising performance in sport
Sport Development Specialist Pathway
- unit 19: sport development
- unit 20: sport facility management
- unit 21: sport and disability
- unit 22: sport marketing
- unit 23: advanced sports leadership
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed entirely through coursework and practical assessments. The course involves independent study and requires additional research to complete the assignments set.
Where do I go from here?
OCR Level 3 with additional short courses (e.g. various coaching awards) could lead you into employment at an operative or supervisory level within a wide range of sport-related environments (e.g. sports coaching, facility operation, gym / fitness instruction, sport development, sports administration or youth work). Alternatively, you could progress to higher education and enter a variety of HNC, HND or degree level programmes in sport and sport-related subjects (e.g. sport studies, management, science or development).
