About this course
A certificate in Body Massage is preferred. Alternatively, the entry requirements may be met by attending our Introduction to Massage weekend in conjunction with extra massage tuition from the course tutor prior to starting the course. A basic qualification in First Aid is required that can be met by simultaneous study.

Course Content
Pathology of Inflammation, Exercises - Strengthening, Mobility & Co-ordination, Common Remedial Conditions, Massage Techniques for Specific Conditions, Remedial Therapy for conditions of the Foot, Ankle, Knee, Leg, Torso, Neck, Hand, Elbow, Shoulder. Joint & Muscle function in Physical Activity. Post-Medical Treatment. Sports Massage for Musculo-Skeletal Injuries. (Content may vary)
Examination System
Continuous assessment by means of written homework, assignments and home practice. Home study and practice is over a minimum period of three months following the school attendance days. A final assessment date is arranged after the home study period.
Qualification Attained
‘International Institute of Sports Therapists’ Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy Diploma. This qualification is recognised by the SMA (Sports Massage Association) and the fitness and sports therapy industries in the UK and overseas.
Professional Insurance
Membership is available to the Federation of Holistic Therapists which offers insurance and other benefits for sports therapists in the UK through the International Council of Health, Fitness & Sports Therapists. You may also join other organisations such as the Sports Massage Association. Employment is available in clinics, gyms, sports centres and part-time freelance, working from home. The Manchester Therapy Centre has part-time work available on an ongoing basis for sports therapists in the Manchester area.
Further Information
The sports massage certificate course includes ‘hands on’ training in sports massage. Course times are from 10.30 am to about 5.30 pm depending on the group size.
You will learn how to assess the client and perform sports massage to a professional standard, plus the background knowledge necessary to setup in business. The sports massage certificate qualification is recognised in many countries outside the UK and gives a good grounding for further qualifications in holistic therapies. The group size is kept at ten or below for individual attention.
