Introduction:
This course looks at Sports Therapy Massage techniques for use in a variety of environments. It includes units on understanding joint and muscle function and muscular-skeletal injuries, as well as giving advice on post-medical sports massage treatment. It is therefore a comprehensive qualification for practitioners of this specialits function at the non-medical level.

Study Mode & Location:
This 20 week course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Students need to be aware of the client requirement for practical assessments as outlined in the assessment paragraph.

Course Content:
Units of study include:

  • Support health, safety and security in the workplace (M2)
  • Support employment standards (M74)
  • Provide sports therapy massage in all environments (M132)
  • Understand and advise on joint and muscle function in physical activity (M163)
  • Understand musculo-skeletal injuries and conditions and advise on post-medical sports massage treatment (M164)


Assessment:
All units are internally assessed by an assessor observing and questioning your practical work. There are also assignments, plus units M2 and M74 are externally assessed by a single test paper. All practical assessments must be carried out on paying clients and you will be asked to provide clients for some assessments.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to HNDs in Sports Therapy or Beauty Therapy, or to a Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Therapies. You may also seek employment in the beauty, health/fitness or holistic therapy industries.
