Course Overview

The number of graduates entering the sporting industry is increasing. More and more potential employers are looking towards industry expertise and experience to compliment academic qualifications. This course is specifically designed to address this issue with the third year of the course being spent on an industrial placement in the sporting industry. This placement will give you the opportunity to gain the industrial experience and relevant sporting skills that employers are seeking from today's graduates.

"Our sports courses are innovative and appropriately designed to meet the ever changing needs of the sporting industry. They aim to challenge the student academically, to promote individual personal development and provide the valuable vocational experiences required to ensure our graduates excel within the workplace". Kelly Goodwin, Course Leader.

Sports Psychology and Coaching Sciences is an exciting new degree combining the principles and practise of coaching with the psychological underpinning for enhancing sport performance. The degree incorporates a wide range of specific knowledge essential to excel in the modern sporting industry including sports coaching, sports psychology, sports marketing and the management of sports performance.

The structure of the course was developed following discussion with specific organisations including UK Sport, BASES, Sport England, Sports Coach UK, the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management, and some of the sport National Governing Bodies.

As well as the Industrial Placement, our students also experience work-based learning in their first and second years - during this time they develop their skills in coaching and performance. Our students, therefore, graduate with an academic degree, a range of specific vocational experiences and the key personal skills required to excel in employment.
