The stage set-up is, in theater and cinema, the one who is responsible for modifying, placing on the stage and storing the furnishings, objects and any other materials used on stage during theatrical, film and television shows. This professional figure also takes care of creating or modifying existing objects following the instructions of the interior designer or set designer, and of creating small special effects (fire, smoke, etc.) that do not require too specific expertise. The toolmaker is also present in many sectors of the show: he can in fact operate in the field of film, television, theater and opera productions, rather than in the realization of advertising projects. The function of toolmaker was historically assigned to an artisan who made objects: each permanent theater created these furnishings and objects on its own.
