Our Graduate Diploma in Statistical Data Science introduces you to the methods for the practical implementation of various types of statistical analyses, firmly grounded within the context of the underlying statistical theory and associated mathematics.

The Graduate Diploma in Statistical Data Science is ideal for those who are looking to upskill quickly in the theoretical underpinnings and practical implementation of the kinds of statistical analyses that are often required in the practice of data science.

It will give you the confidence to ask the right questions when presented with a statistical analysis, and to carry out such an analysis by yourself using a high level statistical programming language.

About this course

The philosophy that underpins the training given on this programme is that of being both rigorous and applied. You will gain an understanding of some of the main statistical methods that are used in data science, such as:

simple experimental design and analysis
multiple linear regression
logistic, and more generally, dichotomous, regression
log-linear modelling for contingency table analysis
You will also be able to apply these techniques to the analysis of real-world data sets and gain a thorough grounding in the use of R.

The programme regularly attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds and professions, such as banking, dentistry, investment fund management, local and central government, medicine, retail, and teaching. A number of prospective entrepreneurs have gone on to successfully found and run their own statistical consultancies.

Graduates can pursue careers in data collection, research, and analysis, modelling and forecasting. Possible professions include statistician, operational researcher, or research scientist (maths). This degree may also be useful in becoming a forensic statistician or higher education lecturer.

An undergraduate degree with a substantial quantitative component (providing some familiarity with elementary probability and statistical theory) plus A-level mathematics (or equivalent).
