The stock market operator is an intermediary that deals with buying and selling financial products (stocks, bonds, currencies and other transferable securities) on its own behalf or on behalf of third parties. In the first case it operates as a financial broker and in the second as a dealer, two distinct activities which can however be carried out by the same subject. The financial broker advises its clients, looking for the most suitable products for their financial needs, and trades officially listed securities, identifying the best market conditions in relation to their orders. It also takes care of executing purchase or sales orders, preparing and completing the documentation necessary for the operation. Transactions carried out on behalf of third parties are remunerated through a commission. The dealer, on the other hand, buys and sells securities through own resources, generally borrowed from banks or private individuals. The dealer then resells the stock at a higher price than the purchase price and derives his gain from the difference if it is greater than the interest on the loan. STOCK MARKET OPERATORS work as employees within authorized companies. The main subjects authorized to offer investment services (or securities brokerage services on their own or on behalf of third parties) are securities firms, asset management companies and banks. These companies require authorization from CONSOB (SIM) or the Bank of Italy (asset management companies and banks) and must pass a series of quality controls for this purpose. Community banks and investment firms from EU countries authorized to do so in their countries of origin can also offer their services on the Italian market. The offer of investment services in Italy is governed by Legislative Decree no. 58 (Consolidated text of the provisions on financial intermediation) and by the European directive MiFID 2004/39 / EC.
