Course programme
The stone carving courses have been very popular and we are really encouraged by the feed back from participants.
The course will be led by Claire Mason, an experienced stone carver, who regularly attends, exhibits and demonstrates stone carving techniques at the Square and Compass and the Bankers' Arms in Dorset. Claire enjoys creating beautiful and useful items from stone and her enthusiasm for her craft is evident in the sculptures and other work that she produces.
The lessons will take place in the field at Bradgate Manor, surrounded by woodland, with W.C. and hand-washing facilities close by. Shelter will be provided in the event of bad weather.
The class group will be small so that Claire can give individual attention to each person. During the course you will each be provided with a set of chisels, a banker (carving stand) and, of course, stone upon which to work; as well as protective goggles, face masks and aprons. The aim will be to teach techniques and to progress so that all participants have something they have made to take home with them, such as a low relief carving, a small sculpture, or your house name carved in stone.
In recent years Claire has been working in the grounds of Bradgate Manor, where she has worked on unique sculptures, gifts, trophies, and head stones. Claire provides a bespoke stone-carving service and will be pleased to explore ideas for commissions, which be be tailor-made to your own specifications.
Two-day course starting each day at 9.30 am and finishing at 4 pm
