Introduction:
Our Adult Continuing Education (ACE) programmes are short leisure courses. They are ideal if you want to learn new skills, pursue an interest, have fun, and find out more about a particular subject without the stress of exams.
This course forms an introduction to elementary hand crafting using flower plaster. You will gain an appreciation of the equipment that is used to construct a variety of replica flowers. Cakes are then covered with almond paste, side frills are added, followed by flowers in order to form a presentation of cake decorating art.
ACE courses are funded by Lancashire Adult Learning.
Study Mode & Location:
This 12 week part-time evening leisure course will last for 2 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.
Course Content:
This is a mixed ability class where you will learn the techniques required in order to produce a variety of sugar flowers, leaves, frills, flounces and cake decorations. It will be taught at Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Level.
Beginners
For your first class you will need:
- a small jar with a little egg white.
- a small jar with a little cornflower.
- a non-stick board (small or tile to start with).
- small artists paint brushes.
- a polystyrene flowers block.
- two small plastic bags.
- a small plastic box.
- a small pair of scissors.
- a notebook and pen.
Intermediate & Advanced
You will need to bring all equipment you have to the first class. (You may need to purchase some additional items).
Assessment:
Although there is no formal exam for this course, a variety of assessment methods can be used.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This course can lead to other ACE courses or to OCNW (Open College of the North West) START or A unit courses.
