Course programme
This would usually be the second year of the Supported Employment course. However, students can come straight onto this from a vocational course. It might also be a good place to start if you are not quite ready for a vocational course. Students will be involved in creating and running businesses and have experience of running a cafe or a shop, gardening and other activities. The main focus will be external work placements and students will be supported by a job coach. Students will develop skills in communication, practical number and using technology. They will work on making choices, keeping safe, getting on with others and learn work and general skills for work. Students will create a CV and practice interview skills. By taking part in placements they will gain skills and experience which will help them move into the world of work. The supported employment programme is delivered at Keighley College, Morley and Technology campuses. All classes have full access to the learning support, care and access teams. The campus is accessible to all, providing quality equipment and facilities such as the canteen, coffee shop, student area and library. The campuses are situated within the City of Leeds or town of Keighley and are close to all local amenities. Students requiring an Entry or Pre-entry level course will have varied educational backgrounds and experiences. The college will work with individuals, families and other professionals to devise a programme of learning appropriate to individual needs and aspiration which is likely to focus on the development of skills which enable further learning at a higher level, the development of independent living and/or life skills and employability skills which lead to meaningful employment. Students will progress onto employment/supported employment. Our Next Move service is able to provide a personalised programme of support and guidance to help achieve this. Students will also be offered the opportunity to develop interests in new activities and create a timetable of activity that is sustainable outside of the College.
