About the course:
A new one year course which replaces the CACHE NVQ Teaching Assistants course. This course is for volunteers and newly employed classroom assistants, who have been working in an education setting for less than two years, supporting pupils aged 4-16 years. Or supporting students in a FE setting working at or up to Key Stage 4 and/or with special educational needs.

Course Content:
This course comprises 7 units, 5 mandatory and 2 optional, which are relevant and competence based. You will learn about good practice in your role and how to produce a portfolio of evidence to meet the national standards. This is a practical course which includes a First Aid Certificate and the two optional units allow the qualification to be tailored to the age and needs of the pupils being supported and the setting.

Equipment Requirements:
A4 leverarch folder or A4 ringbinder

Assessment:
Direct observation of performance within the workplace. Written questions and professional discussions.

Progression:
Progression to paid employment and NVQ 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning.

Additional Information:
Part time day or evening. Class teacher will need to agree to the signing of some work and provide witness testimonies where relevant. It is suggested that you ensure you will have this support and if possible bring confirmation of this to your interview.
