The CACHE Intermediate Level Apprenticeship for Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is designed for learning support staff whose responsibilities at work are closely supervised. They will be working under the direction of the class teacher whose lesson planning and day-to-day direction set the framework within which the individual works. Job titles include: teaching assistant; classroom assistant; learning support assistant; additional needs assistant; pastoral/welfare support assistant; bilingual support assistant; foundation stage assistant.

Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of working with children to support their learning, and development. They will need to be dedicated and committed to their study and be responsible for their own learning. Students on this course are required to be employed in a School. Additional entry requirements include being educated to GCSE level.

What will I learn?
CACHE Intermediate Level Apprenticeship for Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools units:
The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace. The course covers:
- Child and young person development
- Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Functional Skills at Level 1 in English, Maths and ICT
Which award will I achieve?
CACHE Level 2, Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF). Employment Rights and Responsibilities. Functional Skills at Level 2 in English, Maths and ICT.
How will I be assessed?
The above modules will be assessed practically and through knowledge based written assessments. This is a competency course where students are expected to provide evidence through classroom activity, observations and guided assignment work, practical sessions and workplace experience.
What are the entry requirements?

What next?
Possible progression to an Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Following further training and development, career pathways may include progression to senior support roles within primary, special and secondary schools. Opportunities may exist in areas such as childcare, play work or youth work.

Attendance
1 day per week in college. Attendance is closely monitored by your assessor. Excellent attendance is required in order to achieve the qualification.

if you do not already have one.
