Course programme

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but you will need to be at least 16 years of age and you must be working in the occupational area to start on the course. Course Content Qualification structure To gain the qualification, you will need to achieve 30 credits with 24 credits coming from the mandatory units. You will then need to achieve a minimum of 3 credits from Optional Units in Group A and 3 credits from Optional Units in Group B. This qualification includes 4 mandatory units from the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting the Wider Curriculum in Schools. This enables credits and learning to be transferred from one qualification to another. Mandatory units: • child and young person development • safeguarding the welfare of children and young people • communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults • equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people • help improve own and team practice in schools • maintain and support relationships with children and young people • support children and young people’s health and safety • support children and young people’s positive behaviour • support learning activities Optional units group A: • schools as organisations Level 2 • schools as organisations Level 3 Optional units group B: • contribute to supporting bilingual students • invigilate tests and examinations • prepare and maintain learning environments • provide displays in schools • support assessment for learning • support children and young people at meal or snack times • support children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs • support children and young people’s play and leisure • support children and young people’s travel outside of the setting • support extra-curricular activities • support the use of information and communication technology for teaching and learning • move and position individuals • provide support for therapy sessions. How will I be assessed? All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the students workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. Methods of assessment could include: • inference of knowledge from direct observation of practice • witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy • professional discussion • reflection on own practice in real work situations • written assignments • students own plans and written records • task set by CACHE for knowledge learning outcomes only. The qualification will be pass or refer, and all the assessment criteria of the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass.
