This apprenticeship is an entry point to the profession at Level 3 and its aim is to attract new and talented people into the sector from a wide range of backgrounds.

The objectives are to:

attract new people from under-represented groups into the sector helping to fill current and future skills gaps;
provide an entry route at Level 3, which offers an alternative to HE, but allowing progression to FE/HE;
provide a flexible route into a career in Surveying and into level 4 jobs and higher, through further education and training, leading to professional status

About this course




By the end of your apprenticeship you will have achieved:

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Surveying, Property & Maintenance;
Level 3 BTEC Sub-Diploma in Construction and Built Environment;
Employee Rights and Responsibilities;
Personal Learning & Thinking Skills.


English Language GCSE Grade C or Functional Skill Level 2;
Maths GCSE Grade C or Functional Skill Level 2;
Having achieved A Levels and 5 GCSE’s at Grades A-C would be advantageous;
Working in a role such as Quantity Surveyor Technician, Building Surveyor Technician, General Practice Surveyor Technician, Maintenance Surveyor Technician or a Valuation Surveyor Technician.

Course programme

You can progress to:

  • level 6 NVQ Diploma in Surveying, Property & Maintenance Management;
  • HNC and Foundation Degrees in Building Surveying, Estate/Property Management/Residential Surveying/ Construction;
  • membership of professional organisations leading to professional/chartered status;
  • full time employment.

At the start of the apprenticeship, or on completion, apprentices can apply for Associate RICS membership, which recognises knowledge and skills developed in the workplace over a minimum period of two years. There are a number of professional organisations who recognise skills and knowledge gained through an apprenticeship.

Course Assessment Method

You will complete computer based assessments throughout the year. Additionally you will be assessed by a range of methods including; Direct observation of tasks or activities, examination of work products produced by learners (e.g. diary notes, site notes, completed reports), examination of witness testimonies from people, other than the assessor, who are prepared to provide statements detailing specific details of learners’ performance, review of records of ‘question and answer’ sessions covering specific aspects of the knowledge and understanding and Professional discussion. All of these assessment methods will build your portfolio of evidence.
