Interpret and apply the Water UK National Standards to confined spaces working. Undertake risk assessments of work in confined spaces. Develop, communicate and install safe systems of work and safe methods of work at confined spaces. Work with permits to work and their control features. Suitable for: Persons responsible for the supervision or management of Confined Space entries, where work has been assessed and classified as Risk Level NC2, NC3 or NC4 under the Water UK scheme and who require pre-assessment training to prepare them for assessment in C&G Unit 972.

Introduction Water UK Confined Spaces City & Guilds 972 Supervision of Work at Water UK Classification NC2, NC3 and NC4 Category Confined Spaces (Advanced Certificate).

This is a City & Guilds of London Institute certificated competency based training and assessment course (City & Guilds Utilities Operations Scheme 5831 – Unit 822).

Content
A review of the requirements of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 leads to an understanding of how to :
- Interpret and apply the Water UK National Standards to confined spaces working
- Undertake risk assessments of work in confined spaces
- Develop, communicate and install safe systems of work and safe methods of work at confined spaces
- Work with permits to work and their control features
- Select, install and maintain appropriate control measures including hygiene
- Understand the mechanisms of atmosphere testing, monitoring and ventilation procedures
- Select – as appropriate to task – gas monitoring or testing equipment, harness, hoists, winches, and fall arrest systems and escape or working breathing apparatus
- Develop, install and maintain appropriate emergency procedures and plans
- Maintain necessary documentation for Confined Space Working
- Select, brief and deploy staff at Confined Spaces and control them effectively during changing working conditions Training Methods A high proportion of hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises, supplemented with classroom based tutorials and pre and post course assessments.

Additional Information

Delegates should provide a passport photograph on the day of training for production of ID Cards. For courses held at our centre in Wellingborough we can provide this service on your behalf using our on-site digital camera. Delegates attending this course should be physically and mentally fit to withstand the rigours of training. The content of this course includes awareness of periodic examinations of equipment. The course does not provide full training in maintenance of equipment. Additional training relating to this subject may be of benefit to delegates (further information available upon request).
