Help build a future that is environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive.

This interdisciplinary course focuses on policies and politics of transformations to sustainability. It helps you translate theories of socioecological change and technological innovation into effective policies and practices for sustainable development.

These skills are urgently required in international development agencies, non-governmental organisations, government ministries and firms in the Global South and North.

About this course

Our graduates have gone into careers in business and consultancy organisations, government ministries, NGOs, international organisations such as the UN, think-tanks, social enterprises and other not-for-profits.

Others have gone on to study for PhDs or careers in academia.

Recent graduates have gained employment in:

international organisations (OECD, EBRD, ECLAC, UNHCR Innovation)
government departments (DFID)
local authorities (Brighton & Hove Council sustainability team)
NGOs (Greenpeace, Green Jobs Alliance).

Graduate destinations
92% of students from Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) were in work or further study six months after graduating. Recent University of Sussex Business School graduates have gone on to jobs including:

consultant researcher, Unicef Office of Research
junior research analyst in corporate governance, ISS (Institutional Shareholder Services)
consultant, Technopolis.

You should have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above.
