2. Course description Introducing learners to the different ways of effectively supporting teaching and learning in schools this level 1 course aims to give an insight into the role of learning support staff and some of the resources and techniques that can be used to assist children with developing skills in literacy, numeracy, ICT and across the wider curriculum. Training will be carried out within the classroom by projects, role play, group discussions, research and pair work. It will equip the learners with an introduction to the skills required to work in a school environment. The learners will build a portfolio using various sources of evidence from classroom sessions and homework tasks. The portfolio will be submitted for assessment at the end of the course. It is beneficial to be volunteering in school, but it is not essential.

3. Entry requirements Ideally working towards a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths. 4. Equipment required Learners will need to provide an A4 File or folder, notebook or paper and pen. There are no extra requirements for the course. 5. Assessment method A variety of teaching strategies will be used, e.g. class discussion, tutor-led sessions, research projects, paired work and group work. Students will need to complete a portfolio of evidence for assessment at the end of the course.
