Who is this course for?
People who would like to prepare for a career as a teaching assistant but who still need to improve their Literacy and Numeracy skills.
What previous knowledge/experience are required?
Students must have levels of Literacy and Numeracy equivalent to a Level 1. Some experience of working with children and young people is recommended.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
You will learn about the work of teaching assistant and the skills that you will need in order to begin to work in schools. Because teaching assistants have to have good skills in Literacy you will be given support throughout the course so that you can obtain a qualification in this subject
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Both large and small group teaching, seminars and tutorials will be used, with case studies and role play to explore issues.
How will we assess your progress on the course?
You will complete assignments to demonstrate the achievement of the learning outcomes.
What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
You will be awarded a Level 1 Literacy qualification plus a college certificate.
What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Some voluntary work in schools is desirable but not essential.
What can I do after completing this course?
Level 2 Teaching Assistant Certificate.

College registration fee £10. There are no other additional costs. Books may be borrowed from the college library.
