Course programme

The course is delivered at Partner Colleges and provide a logical progression route from the Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Education) as well as a relevant CPD qualification.
The diploma awards have been developed in collaboration with the partner colleges who offer these courses. This has enabled `real development needs of staff within the Lifelong Learning Sector to be identified and addressed within the qualifications. Colleagues have been involved at all stages of the planning of the awards, units offered, outline teaching schedules and assessment strategies.
All course participants are expected to make direct and meaningful connections between the course content and their own work-based experiences and aspirations. All assignments are based around the specific needs of the participants and their organisations and draw upon evidence gathered in the work place.
This University Diploma provides a structure within which to deliver the requirements for Skills for Life specialist teachers. The PCE professional standards and their application for teachers of English (Literacy and ESOL) and Mathematics (Numeracy) underpin the qualifications developed for specialist teachers. The new qualifications for the three Skills for Life pathways, endorsed by LSIS, are offered as University Diplomas enabling those working within this area of lifelong learning the ability to gain the required LSIS qualifications whilst building credit towards their Degree (see note below)*
NB: The taught part of this course generally starts in November of the academic year to ensure that recruitment can take place at the start of the FE Autumn Term Units
