ways your students can improve their English?
Have you always wanted to use literature in your
General English or even business English class but
aren’t sure how? Do your students have to
read/study literature but aren’t motivated by
reading? Would you like to try out other activities
different from the typical, boring comprehension
questions? Have you ever wondered what it’s
like to write a creative text? If you answered “Yes”
to any of these questions, this course is for you.

About this course
The methodology will propose learner-centred
activities aimed at getting (and keeping) the
participants engaged with the texts. These types of
activities provide meaningful language practice
of all features of the language – grammar,
vocabulary, pronunciation, style, and cultural
background, as well as the four skills, while giving
motivating experience in literature, and
encouraging critical thinking.
Teachers of English or other additional languages
at secondary or tertiary level, including subject
teachers.
You will need an upper-intermediate level of
English (B2 or above) to participate in this
course.
Attendance certificate detailing topics
covered, course content and the number of
training hours.

Course programme
The course will explore a wide range of ways to deal with literary text, aiming at fostering enjoyment of the texts, encouraging critical thinking and,
through these, improving our students’ language, and work with not only traditional texts (short stories, poems, extracts from novels and plays),
but also with alternative texts.
We will not focus on literary criticism, though if most participants are interested, some can be included.
We will look at criteria for choosing appropriate and motivating texts for our students, give some practice in designing engaging activities to use with them, and give participants a taste of creative writing.
