Is the course for me?
The course is designed for candidates who are working in the industry with a wide variety of prior experience on complex Plumbing systems. You would usually of completed the NVQ 2 Plumbing programme and/or the level 2 Technical Certificate only. Ask for advice on this as you may be exempt or able to do this first on a 'Direct Access' programme.

What will I learn?
This course is not designed for people who have no experience on complex systems, It is for individuals to gain certification of prior knowledge. Other candidates are advised to do the NVQ 3 Plumbing programme on a 2 year day release or evening basis. You will be initially assessed by one of the Plumbing Assessors on your current competence using a Skills Scan to pick up on your current abilities. This will produce an individual action plan for your progression needs. Most candidates will attend on an evening basis once a week for short training sessions and exams but may need to come in on a day/block week basis for practical assessments as required. This is organised with your tutors.

How will I be assessed?
You will sit modular, multiple choice exams and also display competence on complex domestic practical installations. You will need to produce a portfolio of site evidence with a work based recorder and have site visits by one of our Assessors.

What can I do after the course?
Renewable Energies? - The centre currently offers WRAS Water regulations, Part L Energy Efficiency Certificate, Unvented Domestic Hot water and ACS Domestic Gas Safety and from October 2009 will offer Solar Domestic Hot water. It is proposed to run other renewable energies at a later date too such as Air/Ground Source Heat Pumps, Grey Water Recycling and Rainwater Harvesting.
