General Information
The college offers two full-time one year courses in Theatrical, Film TV, Photographic, Catwalk, Special Effects Make-up:
- Year 1 - NVQ Beauty Therapy Make-up Route Level 2 Certificate
- Year 2 - Theatrical and Media Make-up VTCT Level 3 Certificate
- Year 1 must be completed before students can progress onto the second year.
Our students are provided with excellent resources and have proven very successful in national competitions recently. The college has a record of performing well in Theatrical Make-up with experienced tutors and a friendly working environment.
What will I do on the Course?
The courses are mostly practical and include work placements. You will learn the application of make-up to change an individuals appearance and cover all make-up techniques to work within the industry of theatrical, fashion and photographic make-up.
All 16-18 year olds will take Keyskills, the college will require students over 18yrs old to take a Keyskills qualification if one has not been achieved.
How will I be Assessed?
- Continual practical observation by the tutor on a range of models.
- Oral and written tests throughout the programme on the subjects covered as coursework.
- Portfolio building and assignments (written projects on a topic to study which help with the underpinning of knowledge.
- Multiple choice test for VTCT qualification.
What could I do at the end of the Course?
After completion of the second year, many students choose to either work as a freelance make-up artist or are employed by the television industry.
What do I need to join the Course?
No formal qualifications are required but a background in Art, Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing would be useful.
Students 16—18 yrs old are exempt from paying training, registration or certification fees and also may be able to receive an EMA weekly maintenance allowance. Anyone currently on any form of benefits may also be exempt from paying training, registration or certification fees.
