Course programme

Tourism and Leisure Studies is a popular and challenging programme that introduces students to the expanding world of tourism and leisure. The programme adopts a multi-disciplinary perspective in examining the growth, patterns and problems of tourist and leisure activity as well as considering related planning and management strategies and methods. Canterbury Christ Church University is an excellent place in which to study leisure and tourism, located as it is in one of Britain’s most important historic cities and also being close to the Kent coast, the Channel Tunnel and Europe and the East Kent countryside. All of these places provide important sites for student visits and fieldwork. In addition to local fieldwork, students in the second year also have the opportunity to participate in a week long residential field course which, for the last few years, has been held in Malta. The programme is taught by staff from the Department of Sport Science, Tourism and Leisure. The Department places strong emphasis on teaching and also keeps abreast of current developments in the teaching of tourism studies through its active membership of the Association of Tourism in Higher Education. A friendly interest is taken in student welfare and staff are regularly available for academic and personal advice.
