Traffic safety is one of the essential and growing concerns of modern mobile society around the world. With the growth of car park and traffic intensity, the development of transport control and traffic regulation systems, traffic safety still remains as important as half a century ago. Even the most complex and advanced systems are not entirely safe, as it is impossible to avoid human failures.
Safe traffic is a crucial part of sustainable transportation system that aims at the reduction of danger posed by transport and insurance of sustainable pedestrian, passenger and cargo mobility. A traffic safety system provides safe communication provided there are modern tools installed, managed and maintained by qualified specialists.
Traffic participants culture makes a great impact on the number of accidents. Drivers, machinists, pedestrians, cyclists and other traffic participants' responsibility and competences is one of the factors that ensure safe traffic. Safe traffic specialists' knowledge is also very important.
Traffic Safety Engineering study programme is aimed at preparation of specialists, who are able to significantly reduce danger on roads and railroads. Such specialists have necessary skills to apply smart technologies for the organization and management of overland transport traffic, to implement advanced traffic accidents research and prevention methods and to constantly monitor their efficiency, to look for new measures to increase traffic safety levels.
Traffic and its safety is conditioned by many factors: road condition and environment, traffic participants behaviour and health, vehicles and their technical state. The traffic safety engineer's task is to evaluate all the conditions and ensure both safe and comfortable movement on roads and railways.
