Course programme

Course units

The course is made up of 4 units, each will require approximately 5 hours of study.

Unit content is guided by professionally recognised theory and evidence:

Unit 1 - Introduction to training

This unit looks at how to identify organisational or departmental training needs and discuss critical issues related to skills gaps and labour turnover.

Unit 2 - Designing a training programme

This unit looks at theoretical and practical concepts that highlight the importance of training, by looking at cost, time and organisational resources. You will look at how to plan and design effective training programmes using Kolb’s model and will consider how to conduct a training session within the hospitality industry.

Unit 3 - Managing a training programme

In this unit, you will reflect on how to prepare employees to perform the duties within their job description. Building on what is covered in unit 1 and 2, you will also pay close attention to the essence of job instruction, lectures and demonstrations, mentoring and coaching. The unit deconstructs the key role of a trainer and the importance of such a role within an organisation.

Unit 4 - Evaluating a training programme

This unit looks at identifying issues related to the training cycle. You will explore the three stages of training evaluation as well as how to monitor and measure performance against key performance indicators (KPI). The unit will also look at the evaluation of continuing knowledge acquisition, learning and development whilst considering an individual’s future career growth.
