The course will provide an introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry. The course is divided into three core units and three specialist units and these are chosen from: The UK Travel and Tourism Industry; Exploring Customer Service in Travel and Tourism; UK Travel and Tourism Destinations; European Holiday Destinations; Exploring Marketing in Travel and Tourism; Planning visits for Travel and Tourism. The course will also allow you to develop and be certified for a range of Key Skills that are incorporated within the coursework. There will also be the opportunity to study Spanish for Tourist NVQ Level 1 and City and Guilds 4871 - World wide Travel and Tourism Destinations Level 1.

About this course

In addition to the general college entry requirements, you will need to have a minimum of grade D in GCSE English and grade E in GCSE Maths plus a further three Ds at GCSE. Students studying at foundation will require a minimum of a merit along with functional skills at Level 1 in Application of Number, Communications and Information Technology

What will I study?
The course will provide an introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry. Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
Students must show commitment and enthusiasm to employment within the industry.

How will I be assessed?
All the six units will be assessed through coursework (assignments, projects and case studies collected in your portfolio.) The City and Guilds is assessed by an on-line computer test in the last term.

What can I do afterwards?
Successful completion of the course can lead to the advanced National Diploma in Travel and Tourism or another advanced programme, for this you will require a minimum of a Merit grade in your final portfolio. You could also apply to work within the industry.

Are there any additional costs involved?
You will be required to buy a World Travel Atlas - which can be obtained through the College at net price (£17) and there will be some charges for trips and visits ie Dieppe £15, London £12, Bilbao £150 are some examples from recent visits. We endeavour to give as much notice as possible to allow students to save for such trips.
