About the subject

9/11, Foot and Mouth and SAR's have all impacted heavily on the Travel and Tourism industry but, despite this, it still competes with the oil and motor industry as one of the largest in the world employing over 2 million people in the UK, and still it grows. The subject looks at this dynamic industry and gives the students an opportunity to study it in depth whether it is the impact tourists have had on developing nations or how Tour Operators choose and market their package holidays.
The course uses real life events to expand on the theories learnt in the classroom. It works closely with recognised travel companies such Virgin, British Airways, Kuoni, First Choice and a number of local travel agents.

Learning Styles

Teachers will use a wide variety of different strategies to help students learn including educational visits to tourist attractions, guest speakers, video input, role plays and formal teaching. Students are required to research current issues affecting the industry using a range of sources; books, video internet and interviews to produce analytical assignments. Students will be expected to present their work in a variety of methods including formal presentations, role plays and written assignments. Students will be expected to organise and deliver an appropriate Travel and Tourism event.
