The context of leadership is shifting.There are millennials coming in; people working in remote teams that have never worked that way before; things are constantly changing and shifting around me. So for us to be effective,I need to take responsibility for my part of shifting the paradigm and the leadership model, I need to advance my skills of influence, persuasion.

Emotion

I love my role
I am engaged with what the Company does,
I want to feel valued by Senior Management.
I’m really bringing unique value to my management, to my team and to the Company
I don’t want to settle for mediocrity, but things need to change

Problem

I can see already that the Senior Management’s lack of willingness or awareness of listening to our perceptions of some of the challenges there is actually undermining relationships and reducing the amount of opportunities, creating a sense of, not complacency, but almost giving up because this is how it is, that’s how it’s going to be so really what’s the point in bucking the system, but that’s not good enough for me.

Desire

I need to improve my skills and my abilities to influence and communicate effectively
I really need to be engaged in my role.
I can see that it’s important that instead of me going and trying to go head to head with them.
I want others to see me as collaborative rather than as a threat to them.
I believe this will allow me to have the ears of the senior leadership team

I want to create this culture and environment where people are engaged, with the space to thrive, to play to their strengths, to innovate, much better team cohesion and ultimately more productivity, better client relationships and deliver better results.

So one of the things I really like to help people focus on which comes from Tony Robbins is people are not inept, they have resources but they’re just not being resourceful and what we want to do is help John to see how he can tuck into those resources, to uncover his own brilliance so that he’s doing what’s needed to be done, but trusting that he has those tools and resources and then look at what does he need to support the outcome he wants, but it’s helping people to be resourceful again rather than just doing what you know is that social hypnosis of this is how it is, this is how it’s always going to be, everybody else says it’s like this so I guess it must be.

No we don’t want that we want John to be able to think no okay well I’m going to make a difference and even if it’s moving the needle a little bit even if it’s for my own self-esteem when I go home at night I’m not prepared to lay down in this paradigm and just shrug my shoulders and say that’s how it is.
