This intensive post A Level Art and Design programme is designed to prepare you for entry to higher education (BA degree or HND).You will experience the areas of fine art, 3D design, textiles and fashion, graphic design and photography before specialising in a chosen field.
The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design gives you the opportunity to explore your creative potential and specialist area of study. Part one of the course introduces you to the underpinning processes and principles of art and design practice. Part two of the course provides stretch and challenge and will enable you to develop knowledge and understanding within your chosen discipline. You will need to demonstrate an increasing level of independence in preparation for study at degree level, and in the preparation of portfolios ready for university. Part three of the course enables you to negotiate, plan and deliver a personal project. Students will take responsibility for their own learning by proposing and realising a project that integrates planning, research, ideas, methods, evaluation, reflection and future progression and professional opportunities.

Course programme

Entry Requirements

You will need 2 A Levels, preferably one in an art related subject or a Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design. You will also need to provide a portfolio of art work at interview.

Delivery and Assessment

The course is assessed at three points during the year through a range of portfolio briefs, group critiques and an essay. You are required to produce a portfolio of art work and exhibit work developed during part three of the course in an end of year show. Alongside your practical outcomes you will need to keep a journal where you reflect and analyse your practice in relation to the work of contemporary art and design practitioners.

Progression

Upon graduation, you can progress to university to study a full honours degree or HND either at Birmingham Metropolitan College or further afield.
