Those wishing to develop visual skills, either as part of a programme of GCSE subjects or as a contribution to a broadening experience combined with A levels. Students should have obtained 4 GCSE's grade D or above. Other qualifications will be considered from mature students.

Art & Design - GCSE

What are the main features of this course?
This is a one year course leading to the OCR Art and Design Examination. All students follow a basic course in developing observational skills through directed practical research, group discussion and individual tuition. There will be an opportunity to study in the following areas: drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, graphic printmaking, and critical studies. The coursework consists of 3 projects, which can either follow the endorsed route (textiles, drawing and painting, 3 dimensional design, graphics) or the unendorsed route (broad based). The work of relevant artists is studied alongside the practical work. The final project for the examination is set by the examination board and consists of practical work with a critical study of an artist.

How is the course assessed?
Coursework projects (60%) and a controlled test (40%) are assessed internally and moderated externally.

Who should study this course?

Where can I go next?
