The course briefly explore the medical side of dementia in order to understand the different behaviours displayed. There are practical sessions with suggestions and strategies to help you support and manage individuals with dementia and their carers. The course can help you to improve your knowledge, skills and attitudes in caring for people with dementia.

Upon completion you will receive a certificate in Tier 2 Dementia Education - Knowledge, skills and attitudes for roles that have regular contact with people living with dementia.

About this course

This one-day course is aimed at helping you develop your skills and knowledge of dementia. During the course you look at ways to recognise the signs and symptoms of dementia in everyday life, as well as ways of coping and caring in social settings.

Course Details

This course provides an overview of the behavioural changes and complex needs of someone living with dementia, and looks at the support that families and carers could be offered. The course aims to enable you to formulate strategies for supportive and meaningful interactions with anyone living with the condition and includes exercises that give you an insight into what it is like to live with dementia.

  • What is dementia? Statistics, risk factors and prevention, cultural influences, and different types and stages of dementia
  • Basic brain anatomy and physiology
