This free online course introduces you the world of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping.

Course programme
You'll be introduced to the basic GIS functions including:
- subsetting data such as colour selection
- refining maps
- using Ordnance Survey data
The first two exercises - Introduction to GIS, and Data for GIS- provide the foundations for the remaining four exercises.
You'll complete the exercises using the free QGIS software platform (for Windows and Mac).
You'll cover the complete workflow from downloading data to the final map.
The data used is freely available for personal and commercial use outside of the course.
By the end of the course you'll:
- have produced a series of publication-ready maps
- be able to directly apply the skills taught to your own projects
