Course programme



The Vehicle Maintenance and Paint Refinishing Diploma programme is designed for students wishing to enter into the repair or refinishing side of the motor industry. It is aimed at those who do not work within the industry and wish to gain formal qualifications through a full-time programme of study. You will master the basic repair skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and have an understanding of the related technology.


The programme will provide the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by potential vehicle technicians. Students successfully completing all units of study will have mastered the basic repair skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and have an understanding of the related technology. Assessment is based on external examinations with internal assessment of practical ability.


Practical skills and knowledge are delivered by demonstration and practical assignments in the workshop. Theoretical knowledge is delivered by classroom tuition, guided assignments, ILT, and personal study. In addition to your main study programme you will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs (grades A*-G), including English and maths, and an interview.


Career Opportunities

Progression to Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles or Motor Vehicle Body Repair or Refinishing.
