Course Outline
This one year course is aimed at students who wish to follow acareer in the servicing and repair of light vehicles.

It contains a mix of practical skills and underpinning knowledge, and is anintroduction to the structure and operation of light vehicles and the basic skills required to carry out maintenance and repair procedures.
Programme Content
The course has a mixture of classroom lectures and demonstrations, computer based learning and practical sessions in our purposebuilt workshops. The areas studied cover the following modules:
  • Working safely and effectively
  • Foundation skills
  • Vehicle construction and routine maintenance
  • Operating principles of engines
  • Operating principles of tyres, brakes, steering and suspension
  • Operating principles of transmission systems
  • Operating principles of electrical and electronic systems
How will I be assessed
Assessment will take the form of external online tests marked by the awarding body, and tutor set assessments in both theory and practical ability.
Key Skills
Key Skills will be embedded into the course of study as an integral part of motor vehicle skills. You will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence and complete an end test, if appropriate.
