Who is this course for? The Vocational Work Skills programme is for students with learning difficulties working at entry level who want to develop skills required for getting and keeping a job.

Previous knowledge required: No previous knowledge is required for this course. At interview we will assess your level of ability, your support needs and your reasons for applying to make sure that the course is the most appropriate for your educational needs.

What will I study? You will study 4 core units; 'Applying for a job'; 'Going for an interview'; 'My role at work'; and 'Travelling to and from work'. You will also choose 1 other unit; either 'Maintaining a work placement'; or 'Taking part in voluntary work' or 'Working on an enterprise activity'.

What else will I do? You will be able to get a real idea of what it is like to go to work by taking part in work experience. You will also have the opportunity to improve your communication, number and computer skills.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through observation of your work, through set tasks and from evidence in your file.

What will I achieve? Your main qualification will be the City and Guilds 3802 Personal Progression through Work and Life Skills at Entry level 3. You may also achieve other entry level qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy, ICT.

What can I do afterwards? During the course you will work with the local Work Placement Officer who will continue to support you to gain employment. You may also choose to enrol on vocational or part time courses at College to further develop your skills for employment.

Materials required: You will need to bring pens, paper and a file to put your work in.

Additional information about this course: You can study on this course as a full time learner or choose some of the modules only and study as a part time learner.
