You will be making a small wax sculpture from the life model. This course does not cover casting at the City Lit, your sculpture will be sent away to the foundry for casting and will return to you as a finished bronze sculpture. If you have had any previous involvement with the Castle Arts Foundry please contact the sculpture department before enrolling.

Course programme

Working with a life model, we will look at ways of representing the human form in wax sculpture. We will look at ways of working with wax and methods of making different textures.

Through demonstration, practical and discussion you will be taught as a group and helped individually as required. Handouts will accompany demonstrations. The course is structured to manage the work within the class.

Additional information

The City Lit sculpture department offers a range of courses that will allow you to progress from beginner to advanced as well as pick up a range of techniques. You may like to progress onto the one year long City Lit Sculpture course that helps you build your own individual sculpture practice, or sign up to a short course specialising in a particular approach or skill such as Carving in wood or stone, Surface finishes for clay and plaster or Prop making.
