This course is for those who have previous beginners experience of web design either from the Web Design 1 course at City Lit or other equivalent course.This course is about learning the effective use of CSS to control page layout and change the appearance of content within a web page. Students will use external style sheets, learn about other types of style sheets, make use of the ‘cascade’, understand how CSS works in a web page and understand how CSS is written. At the end of the course, students should have the understanding to create a typical, fixed width web page layout, through the use of CSS.Throughout, the course will make use of the web authoring software Dreamweaver. Students will be guided through the essential features of the software in order to create web pages and use CSS.

About this course

• Use of an external style sheet• Identify the CSS selector types• Recognise when and how to apply styles• Change the appearance of page content• Control the layout of content in a web page with div tags and CSS.

There are no extra costs. The necessary hardware and software will be provided. It may be useful for students to bring a USB drive to transport work from class to home.

Each student has their own computer.
This is a practical course using exercises and supplied materials. The tutor will guide students through a series of exercises. Students will be encouraged to conduct further research and practice outside of class.

HTML5 & CSS3:advanced (stage 3), Create a responsive website using Bootstrap, Intro to SASS, Introduction to User experience and interface (UX/UI), Introduction to Javascript and Introduction to PHP/MySQL.
