This is a course to develop existing skills to a much higher level in pursuit of excellence. With sufficient core skills
to make a round basket without tutor intervention, participants will be able to move to new forms and techniques,
develop increased mastery of the materials and a good eye for proportion and design.
All students will start the course with hoop making and working with a scallomed base. Students will move on to a form of their choice after discussion with the tutor. This may include square or round work.
It will teach new skills to intermediate, advanced and those already professional. The aim of the course is to increase regularity and precision, and to improve students choice of materials for different parts of the work.

Course programme
This will vary depending on existing skill level but will cover all forms of willow basketry familiar to the tutor.
These will include hoop making, scalloming, fitching, squarework and wider borders. Individual programmes will be planned during the weaving of the first basket and will be tailored to skill level and student’s desired outcomes.
Professionals will work on more complex objects than those with less experience. Baskets may be functional or
sculptural but will be on a scale to fit the working space.
