By the end of the course, delegates will be able to: Demonstrate knowledge of terminology, relevant standards and safe working practices pertaining to the manufacture of steel wire rope slings. Carry out the splicing skill involved safely, successfully and in accordance with accepted standards and codes of practice. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant statutory sling examination, proof load testing and marking of manufactured slings, in accordance with recognised standards. Suitable for: Those involved in mechanical splicing of wire ropes and/or those who are responsible for or give advise to employees directly concerned with mechanical splicing operations.

The aims of the course are to:
*Provide selected delegates with a thorough grounding of the legal requirements, safe working practices pertaining to the mechanical splicing, and subsequent proof load testing of wire rope assemblies.
*Assess candidate competency of all operations in order to validate the authorising signature on subsequent appropriate test documentation.

*Definitions & Terminology
*Legal Requirements A reference to all the legal documents underlining relevant responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act, Factories Act, Relevant regulations, European Directives, Recognised codes of practice, statutory certificates and reporting procedures.
*Basic Principles of Sling Design. (Vectors - Trigonometric & Uniform Load Methods)
*Presentation & Explanation with Samples. Sling types, Applications and Rope selection.
*Mechanical System of Rope Termination (Rope measurement, Ferrule Selection, Fitting of Ferrules, Die Selection, Pressing, Inspection and Proof loading.)
*Practice of Mechanical System of Rope Termination (Rope measurement, Ferrule Selection, Fitting of Ferrules, Die Selection, Pressing, Inspection and Proof loading.) with ongoing assessment.
Achievement Measurement
This is a course, focusing on customers' specific requirements and their delegates' experience. Trainers employ the practical methods of instruction, explanation demonstration, imitation and practice with ongoing assessment leading to certification on successful completion.
